The Night Before Surgery...
Do not eat anything after midnight! This includes vitamins, gum, juice, coffee, water, etc.
Your stomach must be completely empty prior to surgery. Get to bed early and get a good night's sleep.
If you are taking any prescription medication, please check with your physician or with our Recovery Room nurses for special instructions. Bring your medications with you.
Please make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home after surgery. For your own safety this rule will be strictly enforced. Please also arrange to have someone stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery. If the patient is a child, parents need to stay at the Center with the child for the entire time the child is here. Please arrange for two adults to accompany the child home.
Just before your surgery an anesthesia professional will meet with you to discuss your surgery, review your medical history, explain the type of anesthesia to be used, give you any special instructions, and answer any of your questions.
If you develop a cold, persistent cough, fever or flu, please notify your doctor immediately. He or she may need to cancel your surgery. |
